The 14-day Manaslu Circuit Trek costs USD 800 to USD 900 per person on a group-joining departure, or USD 1,150 to USD 1,450 per person on a private solo Manaslu Circuit trek for 2 to 4 trekkers. Solo private treks run USD 1,450 to USD 1,700. These figures are all-inclusive: all 5 mandatory permits, a licensed guide, a porter, all meals on the trail, teahouse accommodation, and road transport from Kathmandu to the trailhead and back. Trust our manaslu trekking company for expert guidance on every Manaslu adventure. Trust our manaslu trekking company for expert guidance on every Manaslu adventure.
Three things drive the cost difference between trekkers on the same route: group size (sharing the guide and porter cost across more people), season (peak RAP is USD 25 more per person than off-peak), and whether you want a private arrangement or are comfortable joining a scheduled group departure. Everything else, including food, accommodation, and transport, costs the same regardless.
We run the Manaslu Circuit Trek every year, more than 200 trips. The breakdown below is based on what we actually charge and what you actually spend on the trail, not estimates from someone who read about it. Every number here is current for 2026.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Package Cost by Group Size
The guide and porter costs are fixed per day, regardless of the number of people in the group. More trekkers means those fixed costs are divided more ways, so the per-person price drops significantly from solo to group.
| Group Size | Per Person Cost (14 days, all-inclusive) |
|---|---|
| Solo (1 person) | USD 1,450 to 1,700 |
| 2 persons | USD 1,350 to 1,390 |

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permit Cost 2026
The Manaslu Circuit passes through a restricted area that borders Tibet. Because of this, the Nepal government requires five separate permits. No other major teahouse trek in Nepal has this many permits, and no other permit in Nepal costs as much as the Restricted Area Permit (RAP). This is the single biggest cost difference between Manaslu and other Nepal treks like EBC or Annapurna.
1. Restricted Area Permit (RAP)
This is the core permit for the Manaslu restricted zone. Cost is based on season and duration:
| Season | First 7 days | Each additional day |
|---|---|---|
| Peak (Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec) | USD 100 | USD 15/day |
| Off-peak (Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug) | USD 75 | USD 10/day |
| SAARC nationals (India, Bangladesh, etc.) | USD 70 | USD 10/day |
For a standard 14-day trek that spends 12 days inside the restricted zone, peak season costs USD 100 + (5 days x USD 15) = USD 175. Off-peak costs USD 75 + (5 days x USD 10) = USD 125. That is a USD 50 saving per person just by trekking in the off-peak window.
2. Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)
| Nationality | Cost |
|---|---|
| Foreign (non-SAARC) | NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) |
| SAARC nationals | NPR 1,000 (approx. USD 7.50) |
| Nepali citizens | NPR 100 |
3. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
Required for the final section of the trek from Larkya La through Dharapani.
| Nationality | Cost |
|---|---|
| Foreign (non-SAARC) | NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 22) |
| SAARC nationals | NPR 1,000 (approx. USD 7.50) |
| Nepali citizens | NPR 100 |
4. TIMS Card not mandatory
| Category | Cost |
|---|---|
| Non-SAARC trekkers | NPR 2,000 (approx. USD 15) |
| SAARC trekkers | NPR 1,000 (approx. USD 7.50) |
5. Chumnubri Rural Municipality Entry Fee
NPR 1,000 per person (approx. USD 7.50) for all nationalities. Collected at the checkpoint in Jagat.
Total Permit Cost Summary
| Nationality | Peak Season (14 days) | Off-Peak Season (14 days) |
|---|---|---|
| Non-SAARC foreign | USD 229 | USD 179 |
| SAARC (Indian, Bangladeshi, etc.) | USD 109 | USD 97 |
| Nepali | NPR 1,300 (approx. USD 10) | NPR 1,300 |
Important: the RAP can only be obtained through a registered trekking agency in Kathmandu. You cannot apply for it yourself at the checkpoint or online. This is why a licensed guide and a registered company are mandatory, not optional.
Guide and Porter Cost for the Manaslu Circuit Trek
A licensed trekking guide is not optional on the Manaslu Circuit. The government requires one for the restricted area permit. But beyond the legal requirement, a good guide on this route makes a real difference: the Budhi Gandaki valley has monasteries, local festivals, and villages where most residents speak only Nepali or Tibetan. A guide who knows these places and knows the teahouse owners personally changes what you experience on the trail.
Guide Cost
| Guide Type | Daily Rate | 14-Day Trek Total | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Licensed trekking guide (English) | USD 35 to 50/day | USD 490 to 700 | Rate includes guide’s own food, accommodation, and insurance |
| Senior guide or expedition-experienced guide | USD 50 to 65/day | USD 700 to 910 | For high-altitude experience or large groups |
On a group joining departure with 8 to 12 trekkers, the guide cost is split across all trekkers. Your share of the guide cost is typically USD 80-120 for the full 14-day trek. On a private 2-person trek, the guide cost of USD 490 to USD 700 is split between two, so each person pays USD 245 to USD 350 for the guide.
Porter Cost
| Porter Type | Daily Rate | 14-Day Trek Total | Max Load |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard porter | USD 20 to 25/day | USD 280 to 350 | 25 to 30 kg |
| Porter guide (carries + guides) | USD 30 to 40/day | USD 420 to 560 | 15 to 20 kg |
A porter is not legally mandatory, but strongly recommended for any trekker who has not done multiple Himalayan treks above 4,500m with a loaded pack. The trail crosses Larkya La at 5,160m. That is a long, steep crossing after 10 days of cumulative effort. Having a porter carry your main bag (your day pack stays with you) makes crossing the pass faster and safer. One porter per 2 trekkers is the standard arrangement on private treks.
Tipping Guide
| Staff | Suggested Tip (14 days) | When |
|---|---|---|
| Guide | USD 150 to 250 | Last day in Kathmandu, in cash |
| Porter | USD 100 to 150 | Last day on trail or in Kathmandu, in cash |
Tipping is not included in the package price and is never compulsory. It is standard practice in Nepal trekking and is how guides and porters earn a meaningful income above their daily rate. Tips are given directly to each person, not through the agency.
Food and Accommodation Cost on the Manaslu Circuit Trek
All food and teahouse accommodation costs are included in our packages. This section shows you what those costs actually are on the trail, so you understand where your money goes and what to expect.
Accommodation by Altitude Zone
| Zone | Main Stops | Room Cost (per night) | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lower valley (below 2,500m) | Soti Khola, Machha Khola, Tatopani, Jagat | NPR 300 to 500 (USD 2 to 4) | Basic rooms, shared bathroom, some with hot water from solar |
| Mid valley (2,500m to 3,500m) | Deng, Ghap, Namrung, Lho, Shyala | NPR 400 to 700 (USD 3 to 5) | Shared rooms, cleaner teahouses, Lho and Shyala have nicer lodges |
| Upper valley (3,500m to 4,000m) | Samagaon, Samdo | NPR 600 to 1,000 (USD 4.50 to 7.50) | Best teahouses on the route: Samagaon has heated dining rooms and solar power |
| High section (above 4,000m) | Dharamshala (Larkya Phedi), Bhimthang, Tilche, Dharapani | NPR 800 to 1,200 (USD 6 to 9) | Dharamshala is basic by necessity (one night before the pass). Bhimthang is comfortable. |
Room cost on this trek is low because teahouses expect you to eat all three meals with them. That is the standard teahouse arrangement across Nepal. If you eat at a different teahouse from where you sleep, your host will charge a higher room rate or decline to give you a room. We tell all our trekkers this upfront so there are no surprises.
Meal Costs by Section
| Meal | Lower section (Soti Khola to Namrung) | Upper section (Lho to Bhimthang) |
|---|---|---|
| Breakfast (porridge, eggs, toast, tea) | NPR 400 to 600 (USD 3 to 4.50) | NPR 600 to 900 (USD 4.50 to 7) |
| Dal bhat (rice, lentils, vegetable curry, pickles) | NPR 500 to 700 (USD 3.75 to 5.25) | NPR 700 to 1,000 (USD 5.25 to 7.50) |
| Noodles or pasta | NPR 400 to 600 | NPR 600 to 800 |
| Full dinner (soup, main, tea) | NPR 600 to 800 | NPR 900 to 1,300 |
| Daily food budget (3 meals) | NPR 1,500 to 2,000 (USD 11 to 15) | NPR 2,200 to 3,500 (USD 16.50 to 26) |
Dal bhat is the best-value meal on the route, and refills are free at almost every teahouse. In Samagaon and Lho, you will also find apple pie, Tibetan bread, and yak cheese. In Samdo, yak meat dishes appear on the menu. These are not in every guidebook, but they are part of what makes the Manaslu Circuit kitchen different from teahouses on Everest or Annapurna.
Drinks and Extras on the Trail
| Item | Cost (lower) | Cost (upper) |
|---|---|---|
| Butter tea / milk tea | NPR 80 to 120 | NPR 150 to 200 |
| Bottled water (1L) | NPR 100 to 150 | NPR 200 to 300 |
| Boiled water (1L, fill from teahouse) | NPR 60 to 80 | NPR 80 to 100 |
| Local beer | NPR 500 to 700 | NPR 700 to 1,000 |
| Charging phone or battery (per charge) | NPR 200 to 400 | NPR 400 to 600 |
| Hot shower | NPR 300 to 500 | NPR 500 to 800 |
| WiFi (per day) | NPR 300 to 500 | NPR 500 to 800 |
Using a water filter or purification tablets instead of buying bottled water saves NPR 4,000 to 7,000 over the full 14-day trek. That is USD 30 to USD 52. Bringing a powerbank from Kathmandu removes the need to pay for charging at teahouses.
Transport Cost for the Manaslu Circuit Trek
| Route | Shared/Public | Private Jeep | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kathmandu to Soti Khola (trailhead start) | USD 15 to 25 per person | USD 230 to 280 per vehicle (7 to 8 seats) | 7 to 8 hours |
| Kathmandu to Machha Khola (common alternative start) | USD 20 to 30 per person | USD 250 to 300 per vehicle | 7 to 8 hours |
| Dharapani to Kathmandu (trek end) | USD 25 to 35 per person (shared jeep) | USD 280 to 350 per vehicle | 7 to 9 hours |
| Dharapani to Pokhara (alternative exit) | USD 12 to 20 per person | USD 150 to 200 per vehicle | 3 to 4 hours |
The road from Kathmandu to the trailhead is partly paved, partly dirt. Private jeeps take roughly the same time as shared transport but are more comfortable, depart on your schedule, and carry all your gear without the cramped seating of a public bus. On a group departure, transport is always shared and already included in the package price.
No domestic flights are required for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. This is one of the main reasons it costs less than the Everest Base Camp Trek, where Kathmandu to Lukla return flights add USD 300 to USD 500 per person to the base cost.

Your package includes permits, a guide, a porter, accommodation, and all meals. Personal spending on top of that typically runs USD 20 to USD 40 per day, depending on how many drinks you buy, whether you use hot showers, and how much you tip.
| Personal Expense | Budget Level | Moderate Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drinks (tea, coffee, water) | USD 3 to 5/day | USD 6 to 10/day | Use a filter, not bottled water, to save USD 30+ total |

Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost by Nationality
Cost for Indian Trekkers (and All SAARC Nationals)
Indian citizens and all nationals of SAARC countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) pay reduced permit rates. The RAP is USD 70 for the first 7 days, down from USD 100 in peak season. MCAP and ACAP are NPR 1,000 each instead of NPR 3,000.
| Permit | Non-SAARC (peak) | SAARC/Indian (peak) | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| RAP (14-day trek) | USD 175 | USD 120 | USD 55 |
| MCAP | USD 22 | USD 7.50 | USD 14.50 |
| ACAP | USD 22 | USD 7.50 | USD 14.50 |
| TIMS | USD 15 | USD 7.50 | USD 7.50 |
| Chumnubri fee | USD 7.50 | USD 7.50 | No difference |
| Total permits | USD 241.50 | USD 150 | USD 91.50 |
All other costs (guide, porter, food, accommodation, transport) are identical for Indian and non-SAARC trekkers. The total all-inclusive cost for a 14-day private trek for an Indian national (2 persons) is approximately USD 1,050 to USD 1,250 per person.
Cost for Nepali Trekkers
Nepali citizens are exempt from the requirement for a Restricted Area Permit. MCAP and ACAP are NPR 100 each. TIMS is not required for Nepali trekkers. The guide requirement for the restricted area still applies, but a local Nepali-speaking guide costs less than a licensed English-speaking guide.
Total permit cost for a Nepali trekker: NPR 1,200 (MCAP + ACAP + Chumnubri fee). A full 14-day Manaslu Circuit Trek for a Nepali trekker, including a guide, porter, food, and accommodation, typically costs NPR 30,000 to NPR 50,000 (USD 225 to USD 375).
Trek Without Porter vs. With Porter: Cost Analysis
| Factor | With Porter | Without Porter |
|---|---|---|
| Porter cost (14 days) | USD 280 to 350 (private, sole cost) | USD 0 |
| Your pack weight | 5 to 8 kg (day pack only) | 12 to 16 kg (full pack) |
| Daily fatigue level | Moderate | High at altitude |
| Risk of altitude sickness | Lower (less physical strain at altitude) | Higher (heavy pack adds strain at 4,000m+) |
| Speed on Larkya La crossing | Faster (lighter pack) | Slower (heavier load at 5,160m) |
| Recommended for | Most trekkers | Experienced trekkers who have done Himalayan treks above 5,000m with a loaded pack |
Skipping the porter saves USD 280 to USD 350 on a private solo trek, or USD 140 to USD 175 per person on a 2-person private trek. The saving is real, but so is the consequence: a 16 kg pack on the Larkya La crossing at 5,160m, after 10 days on the trail, is significantly harder than it sounds in Kathmandu. We include a porter in all our packages because the cost difference is smaller than the risk of someone struggling or turning back on the high section.
Manaslu Circuit Trek vs Everest Base Camp Trek: Cost Comparison
| Cost Factor | Manaslu Circuit Trek (14 days) | Everest Base Camp Trek (14 days) |
|---|---|---|
| Permit cost | USD 179 to 229 | USD 40 to 55 (Sagarmatha NP + TIMS) |
| Domestic flight (return) | None. Road transport only. | USD 300 to 500 (Kathmandu to Lukla return) |
| Guide cost | Same: USD 35 to 50/day | Same: USD 35 to 50/day |
| Food cost on trail | Lower (NPR 1,500 to 3,500/day) | Higher (NPR 2,500 to 5,000/day) |
| Accommodation cost | NPR 300 to 1,200/night | NPR 500 to 2,500/night (Everest premium pricing) |
| Package starting price (group) | USD 800 to 900 | USD 1,100 to 1,400 |
| Package starting price (private, 2 pax) | USD 1,150 to 1,390 | USD 1,500 to 2,000 |
| Crowd level | Low. 5,000 to 8,000 trekkers/year. | Very high. 40,000+ trekkers/year. |
| Highest point | Larkya La: 5,160m | Everest Base Camp: 5,364m |
The Manaslu Circuit permit costs more than the Everest Base Camp Trek, but the Lukla flights bring EBC’s total cost above Manaslu by USD 200 to USD 400 per person. Food and accommodation in the Everest region are also significantly more expensive than the Manaslu valley at the same altitude. The overall result: Manaslu costs less, is quieter, and covers more terrain (177 km vs about 130 km for EBC).
How to Reduce Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost Without Compromising Safety
1. Join a Group Departure
This is the single most effective way to reduce cost. A group joining departure costs USD 800 to USD 900 versus USD 1,150 to USD 1,450 on a private 2-person trek. The difference is entirely because the guide, porter, and vehicle cost are split across 8 to 12 trekkers instead of 1 to 2. You still get the same licensed guide, the same permits, the same teahouses, and the same trail.
2. Trek in the Off-Peak Season
January through August is off-peak for the RAP, saving USD 25-50 per person on permits alone. March and April give you the best balance: off-peak permit pricing, stable weather before the monsoon, and rhododendron forests in full bloom in the lower valley. Some teahouses are also cheaper in March and April than in the October peak.
3. Use Shared Transport
A shared jeep from Kathmandu to the trailhead costs USD 15-30 per person, versus USD 230-300 for a private vehicle. On a solo or 2-person private trek, choosing shared transport for the departure and return legs saves USD 150-250 per person.
4. Carry a Water Filter
A Sawyer or LifeStraw filter costs USD 20-40 and eliminates the need to buy bottled water for the entire trek. Over 14 days on the Manaslu Circuit, trekkers who buy bottled water spend NPR 5,000 to NPR 8,000. The filter pays for itself on day 3 of the trek.
5. Buy Snacks in Kathmandu
Chocolate, energy bars, nuts, and instant coffee at Thamel shops cost a fraction of what the same items cost at teahouses above 3,500m. Stock 2 weeks of snacks in Kathmandu and spend nothing on trail snacks. This saves USD 25 to USD 50 total.
6. Book Through a Manaslu Specialist
General Kathmandu trekking agencies that handle every trek in Nepal typically subcontract the Manaslu Circuit to a Manaslu-specific operator like us. The client pays the general agency’s markup plus our costs. Booking directly with a Manaslu specialist removes one layer of cost. It also means your guide actually knows this specific route, the teahouse owners personally, and can respond to changes on the ground.
Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost: Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the Manaslu Circuit Trek cost in 2026?
A 14-day all-inclusive Manaslu Circuit Trek costs USD 800 to USD 900 per person on a group joining departure, USD 1,150 to USD 1,390 per person for 2 trekkers on a private trek, and USD 1,450 to USD 1,700 for a solo private trek. These prices include all 5 permits, licensed guide, porter, all meals on the trail, teahouse accommodation, and road transport from Kathmandu.
What permits are required, and what do they cost?
Five permits are required. The total permit cost for a non-SAARC trekker on a 14-day trek is USD 229 in peak season (Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec) and USD 179 in off-peak months. The five permits are: Restricted Area Permit (USD 100 to 175 depending on season and duration), Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (USD 22), Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (USD 22), TIMS (USD 15), and Chumnubri Rural Municipality fee (USD 7.50).
Can I do the Manaslu Circuit Trek without a guide?
No. The Restricted Area Permit can only be issued through a registered trekking agency, and the agency must provide a licensed guide. There is no legal way to trek the Manaslu Circuit without a guide or through a registered Nepali agency. This rule has no exception, even for experienced trekkers.
What is the cheapest month for the Manaslu Circuit Trek?
January to August are off-peak months with lower RAP costs (USD 75 for first 7 days instead of USD 100). Among these, March and April offer the best combination of lower costs, stable weather, clear skies, and wildflower season in the lower valley. December is technically off-peak too, but there is snow risk at Larkya La and some teahouses may be closed. November marks the transition to peak pricing.
Does the package price include meals?
Yes. Our Manaslu Circuit packages include all three meals per day on the trekking days (breakfast, lunch, and dinner at teahouses) and breakfast in Kathmandu. Lunches and dinners in Kathmandu on arrival and departure days are not included. There is no meal choice limitation: you order from the full teahouse menu each meal.
Is travel insurance included in the Manaslu Circuit Trek cost?
No. Travel insurance is not included in any package and must be purchased separately before departure. Your policy must cover emergency helicopter evacuation up to 5,200m altitude and medical treatment in Nepal. A standard policy that meets these requirements costs USD 80 to USD 200 depending on your home country, trip duration, and insurer. Do not trek the Manaslu Circuit without valid helicopter evacuation coverage.
How much should I budget for personal spending?
Budget USD 20 to USD 40 per day for personal spending on the trail. This covers drinks, extra snacks, charging fees, hot showers, and tips for the guide and porter at the end. For 14 days, personal spending typically totals USD 300-500 on top of the package cost.
Is the Manaslu Circuit Trek worth the cost?
Yes. At USD 800 to USD 1,700 all-inclusive, the Manaslu Circuit Trek costs the same or less than the Everest Base Camp Trek while offering more distance (177 km), a comparable high point (Larkya La at 5,160m), far fewer crowds (5,000 to 8,000 trekkers per year versus 40,000+ on EBC), and an authentic cultural experience through villages that few outsiders visit. It is one of the best-value high-altitude treks in Nepal.
