Best Time for the 9 Day Short Manaslu Circuit Trek
Spring Season (March to May)
Spring is one of the best times to trek the Manaslu Circuit. The weather is generally stable, temperatures are comfortable, and the trails are lined with blooming rhododendron forests below 3,500 meters. The mountain views are excellent, and the days are longer, making trekking more enjoyable.
Highlights:
- Blooming rhododendron forests
- Clear mountain views
- Comfortable daytime temperatures
- Ideal conditions for high-altitude trekking
Autumn Season (September to November)
Autumn is considered the peak trekking season in the Manaslu region. After the monsoon rains, the air becomes exceptionally clear, providing stunning views of Manaslu and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Weather conditions are stable, making it the best season for crossing the Larkya La Pass (5,106m).
Highlights:
- Crystal-clear mountain scenery
- Dry and stable weather
- Excellent visibility
- Best conditions for crossing Larkya La Pass
Monsoon Season (June to August)
The monsoon season is generally not recommended for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Heavy rainfall can make trails muddy and slippery, increase the risk of landslides, and bring leeches to lower sections of the route.
Challenges:
- Heavy rainfall
- Slippery trails
- Leeches in forest areas
- Reduced mountain visibility
Winter Season (December to February)
Winter trekking is possible in lower sections of the trail, but conditions become much more challenging at higher elevations. Heavy snowfall can block Larkya La Pass, and temperatures can drop well below freezing, especially during the night.
Challenges:
- Extreme cold temperatures
- Snow-covered trails
- Possible closure of Larkya La Pass
- Limited accommodation services in some villages
Recommended Trekking Months
- March
- April
- May
- September
- October
- November
These months offer the best combination of weather, trail conditions, mountain views, and overall trekking experience for the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek.
Permits Required for the 9-Day Short Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit Trek requires three mandatory permits, all of which are included in our package price. First, the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required because the route passes through a restricted conservation zone near the Nepal–Tibet border — this permit can only be obtained through a registered trekking agency and requires a minimum group of two trekkers with a licensed guide. Second, the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) covers entry into the protected conservation area and contributes to wildlife and forest preservation. Third, the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is needed for the final section of the trek from Larkya La Pass down to Dharapani, which falls within the Annapurna Conservation Area. Our team arranges all three permits in Kathmandu before the trek begins — you do not need to visit any permit offices yourself.
Altitude Sickness and Acclimatization on the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
Altitude sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness or AMS) is a real risk on the Manaslu Circuit Trek due to the rapid gain in elevation, especially on the approach to Dharamsala (4,460m) and the crossing of Larkya La Pass (5,106m). Our 9-day itinerary is carefully designed to allow gradual acclimatization, with incremental daily elevation gains and a rest/acclimatisation day at Samagaon (3,530m) before the high-altitude push. Common symptoms of AMS include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. If symptoms are severe, the only safe response is to descend immediately. All our guides carry emergency oxygen and a first-aid kit, and are trained in altitude sickness response. We strongly recommend trekkers avoid alcohol during the first three days, stay well-hydrated, and walk at a slow, steady pace. Carrying Diamox (Acetazolamide) is advisable — consult your doctor before the trek.
Physical Fitness Requirements for the 9-Day Short Manaslu Circuit Trek
The 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek is rated Hard in terms of difficulty. Trekkers should be physically fit and have prior experience with multi-day mountain hiking before attempting this route. Each day involves 5 to 9 hours of trekking over steep, rocky, and sometimes snow-covered terrain — particularly on the Larkya La Pass crossing day, which is the longest and most demanding of the trek. You do not need technical mountaineering skills, but strong legs, good cardiovascular endurance, and mental resilience are essential. We recommend training for at least 8 to 12 weeks before departure with activities such as long hikes with a loaded backpack, stair climbing, cycling, and jogging. Previous trekking experience in Nepal (such as the Annapurna Base Camp or Langtang Valley trek) is a strong advantage, though not mandatory.

9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek Itinerary
Today we drive by local Bus from Kathmandu to Soti Khola driving through Dhading Beshi and Arughat. The road deteriorates and is quite rough and bumpy from Dhading to Arughat. This afternoon we follow a trail through the woods heading upriver along the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River and then across the mountains from where we have frequent views down to the river far below. Tonight we will stay at a guesthouse at Machha Khola.
We begin by crossing the Machhakhola River and passing Khorlabesi (920m) before arriving at Tatopani, known for its natural hot springs. The trail climbs through dense forest before meeting the Dovan Khola, then continues along the Budhi Gandaki Valley. Vegetation and climate change noticeably as we ascend. We reach Jagat, a traditional stone village with Buddhist influence, and stay overnight at a guesthouse.
Today’s trek offers superb cultural and natural diversity. We hike through Sirdibas, a village with beautiful views of Shringi Himal (7,187m). After crossing a suspension bridge, we make a steep climb to Philim, a Gurung village decorated with cascading waterfalls. From here, the trail leads us through Ekle Bhatti and Pewa before finally reaching Deng, where we settle into a guesthouse.
We start with a short climb before dropping back to the Budhi Gandaki River. The path winds through charming settlements, with clear signs of Tibetan Buddhist influence – including mani walls carved with mantras. A short detour takes us to Prok Village, offering panoramic views of Siringi Himal. By afternoon, we reach Namrung, a village that feels like stepping into another world. Overnight in a guesthouse.
Today feels like traveling back in time. We walk past Lho Village, where ancient mani walls line the trail, and enjoy breathtaking views of Ngadi Chuli (7,871m). A short detour takes us to the Pungen Glacier, where we get an extraordinary close-up of Mount Manaslu. The day ends in Samagaon, one of the largest villages in the region, surrounded by dramatic peaks.
After breakfast, we cross several small rivers and reach Larkya Bazaar, once an important trading post for Tibetan merchants. From here, the trail steepens as we ascend towards Dharamsala (Larkya Phedi). The air thins, and the landscape becomes harsher, with dramatic mountain walls rising on either side. Overnight in a simple but welcoming guesthouse.
This is the most challenging yet rewarding day of the trek. We climb gradually to Cho Chanda and then ascend the snow-covered slopes to the Larkya La Pass (5,106m). From the top, the views are absolutely breathtaking – a panorama of Himlung Himal (7,126m), Cheo Himal (6,820m), Gyaji Kung (7,030m), Kang Guru (6,981m), and Annapurna II (7,937m). After soaking in the views, we descend steeply across glaciers and rocky moraines before reaching Bimtang, a picturesque valley surrounded by snowy peaks. Overnight in a guesthouse.
We descend from high pasture lands into lush forests of rhododendron and oak (especially beautiful in spring). Crossing the Dudh Khola River via suspension bridges, we gradually descend into warmer valleys. By afternoon, we arrive at Dharapani, a key junction that connects to the Annapurna Circuit Trek. Overnight in a guesthouse.
After breakfast, we take a local jeep to Besisahar, followed by a long scenic drive back to Kathmandu. Passing through terraced hills, rivers, and villages, we complete the journey with memories of the Manaslu Circuit Trek that will last a lifetime. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu.

Additional information
Manaslu Circuit Trek Route Overview: Kathmandu to Larkya La Pass
The 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek follows one of Nepal’s most dramatic and remote high-altitude routes. The journey begins in Kathmandu, from where a 7–8 hour drive along the Trishuli and Budhi Gandaki river valleys leads to the trailhead village of Soti Khola (700m). From Soti Khola, the trail heads north through subtropical forests, terraced farmland, and narrow river gorges, ascending steadily through the villages of Machha Khola, Jagat, Deng, Ghap, and Namrung before reaching the high Tibetan-plateau-like terrain around Samagaon (3,530m). The route then climbs steeply to Samdo (3,860m) and the high camp at Dharamsala (4,460m), before crossing the formidable Larkya La Pass (5,106m) one of the highest trekking passes in Nepal. From the pass, the trail descends through Bhimtang to Dharapani in the Annapurna region, where a jeep takes trekkers back to Kathmandu.
Top Villages Along the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit passes through some of Nepal’s most authentic and least-touristed villages. Jagat (1,410m) is the first permit checkpoint and a popular acclimatization stop, surrounded by waterfalls and hanging bridges. Deng (1,804m) is where the culture begins to shift — Tibetan Buddhism becomes increasingly visible, with prayer walls and mani stones lining the trail. Namrung (2,630m) offers the first panoramic views of Shringi Himal (7,187m) and is a peaceful lunch stop with vibrant community life. Samagaon (3,530m) is the spiritual and logistical heart of the trek — a large Tibetan community with a famous Pungen Gompa monastery, several teahouses, and stunning views of Mount Manaslu (8,163m) directly above. Samdo (3,860m) sits just below the Tibet border, with a unique trading history and direct views across to Tibet. Bhimtang (3,590m), reached after crossing Larkya La, feels like paradise after the high-altitude crossing — a meadow village surrounded by rhododendron forests and the peaks of the Annapurna range.
Wildlife and Nature on the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Conservation Area is one of Nepal’s most biodiverse protected regions. The trek passes through several distinct vegetation zones — subtropical broadleaf forests rich in bamboo, orchids, rhododendron, and oak — transitioning to high-altitude alpine meadows near the pass. Wildlife sightings are uncommon but possible: the area is home to the rare Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia), Himalayan Tahr, Blue Sheep (Bharal), Musk Deer, Red Panda, and dozens of bird species including the Danphe (Himalayan Monal) — Nepal’s national bird. The Budhi Gandaki gorge is botanically spectacular, with massive rockfaces draped in mosses and ferns. Walk quietly in early morning and late afternoon for the best chance of wildlife encounters. The conservation area regulations prohibit hunting and logging, helping to preserve this extraordinary ecosystem.
Cultural Highlights: Nubri and Tsum Valley Tibetan Buddhist Traditions
The upper Manaslu region is home to the Nubri people — Tibetan Buddhist communities who have preserved their language, art, and customs largely unchanged for centuries. Prayer flags (Lungta) stretch across ridgelines, Mani walls line every trail (always pass them on the left, clockwise), and the sounds of monks chanting filter out of ancient gompas. The Pungen Gompa at Samagaon is a must-visit — built into a cliff face above the village, it offers extraordinary views and a glimpse into centuries of monastic life. Rachen Gompa is one of the most important nunneries in Nepal. Cultural festivals including Loshar (Tibetan New Year) can occasionally be witnessed by lucky trekkers. The local diet of Tsampa (roasted barley flour), butter tea, and Thukpa (noodle soup) reflects the rich Tibetan cultural heritage of the region.
Accommodation on the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek: What to Expect
Teahouse accommodation along the Manaslu Circuit has improved significantly, but remains far more rustic than the Everest or Annapurna circuits. Rooms are basic: typically two single or twin beds with a foam mattress, a thin blanket, and shared toilet facilities. Above Samagaon, rooms become more spartan and cold — bring a sleeping bag rated to at least -10°C. Common dining rooms heated by a wood-burning bukhari stove serve as the social hub of each teahouse. Solar power is available at most teahouses, though charging devices costs NPR 200–500 extra. Hot showers are available at lower elevations; above Namrung, cold water is the norm. Our package includes twin-sharing teahouse accommodation with breakfast and dinner included at each overnight stop throughout the trek.
Food and Nutrition During the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
Maintaining good nutrition is crucial for trekking performance and acclimatization. Dal Bhat — the traditional Nepali meal of lentil soup, rice, seasonal vegetables, and pickle — is the best value and most nutritious option, with unlimited refills. Other popular choices include Tibetan bread, porridge, noodle soup (Thukpa), fried rice, momos (dumplings), and seasonal vegetable curries. Hydration is critical — aim for at least 3–4 litres of water per day. Always purify water above 3,500m using iodine tablets or a water filter. Energy snacks like Snickers bars, biscuits, dried fruit, and nuts are sold at most teahouses at inflated prices — bring a good supply from Kathmandu. Avoid alcohol above 3,000m, as it accelerates dehydration and impairs acclimatization.
Manaslu Circuit Trek vs Everest Base Camp: Which Should You Choose?
Both treks are iconic, but offer very different journeys. The Manaslu Circuit rewards with complete solitude, raw Tibetan culture, and a genuine sense of adventure on one of Nepal’s most pristine trails. EBC follows one of the world’s most famous routes, culminating at the base of the highest mountain on Earth. In terms of difficulty, Manaslu is comparable or slightly harder due to remote terrain and the demanding Larkya La crossing. Cost: Manaslu is more expensive due to the mandatory restricted area permit and required guide. Crowd factor: EBC sees 30,000+ trekkers per year; Manaslu sees fewer than 5,000. If you value authenticity and solitude over familiarity and prestige, the Manaslu Circuit is the superior choice.
Manaslu Circuit Trek vs Annapurna Circuit Trek: Key Differences
The Annapurna Circuit Trek has been heavily impacted by road construction, with jeep tracks replacing significant sections of trail. The Manaslu Circuit, protected by restricted area regulations, remains entirely on foot — a true trek. Both cross a high Himalayan pass: Thorong La (5,416m) on Annapurna versus Larkya La (5,106m) on Manaslu. Cultural richness favours Manaslu — the Nubri communities and intact gompas are more authentic. Logistics: Annapurna can be done independently; Manaslu requires a licensed guide and minimum 2 trekkers. Scenery: both are stunning, but Manaslu offers closer proximity to 8,163m Mount Manaslu throughout the route. Many experienced trekkers rate the Manaslu Circuit as the superior experience.
Complete Budget Breakdown for the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
Our package price covers: all permits (RAP, MCAP, ACAP), licensed guide, porter (1 per 2 trekkers), all accommodation (twin-sharing teahouse), all breakfasts and dinners, ground transportation, and emergency evacuation insurance. Not included: international flights, Nepal visa (USD 30 for 15 days), personal travel insurance, lunches and snacks, personal gear, and tips for guide and porter (recommended USD 15–20/day for guide, USD 10–12/day for porter). Approximate daily personal spending on trail: USD 15–25 covering lunches, snacks, hot showers, device charging, and drinks. Booking as a package offers the best value compared to arranging guides and permits independently.
Solo Trekking on the Manaslu Circuit: Everything You Need to Know
The Manaslu Conservation Area is a restricted trekking zone, but as of the updated Nepal government regulations, solo trekkers are now permitted — you no longer need a minimum group of 2 people. However, all trekkers (solo or group) must still: (1) be accompanied by a licensed, government-registered trekking guide at all times, and (2) hold a valid Restricted Area Permit (RAP), which can only be obtained through a registered trekking agency. Independent trekking without a licensed guide is still strictly prohibited on the Manaslu Circuit, and permit checkpoints along the route will verify compliance. The requirement for a guide exists both for safety in this remote terrain and for the protection of the sensitive Nubri cultural and ecological environment. Our agency provides experienced, English-speaking, government-licensed guides who handle all permit documentation, teahouse bookings, and emergency coordination — so solo travellers can focus entirely on enjoying one of Nepal’s most extraordinary trekking routes.

Photography Guide for the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit is a photographer’s paradise. Top photography locations: the Budhi Gandaki gorge (misty waterfalls and suspension bridges), Namrung at golden hour (stone houses against Himalayan backdrop), Samagaon with Manaslu summit directly above, Larkya La at dawn (alpenglow on surrounding peaks), and Bhimtang meadows with the Annapurna range. Recommended gear: wide-angle lens for landscapes, telephoto for peak detail, and spare batteries kept warm inside your jacket (cold rapidly kills battery life above 4,000m). Always ask permission before photographing monks, locals, or religious ceremonies — a small donation to the monastery is appropriate.
Sustainable Trekking and Eco-Tourism on the Manaslu Circuit
The Manaslu Conservation Area depends on responsible tourism for its preservation. Key practices: avoid single-use plastic bottles — carry a reusable bottle with purification tablets; choose teahouses using gas or solar heating over firewood; stay on marked trails to prevent erosion; buy food and souvenirs from locally owned businesses; and tip your guide and porter generously as one of the most impactful contributions to the local economy. Our agency is a member of the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and follows strict ethical employment standards including fair wages and maximum porter load limits.
History of Mount Manaslu and the Manaslu Conservation Area
Mount Manaslu (8,163m) is the world’s eighth highest mountain. Its name comes from the Sanskrit Manasa, meaning “Mountain of the Spirit.” It was first summited on May 9, 1956, by a Japanese expedition. The Manaslu region was closed to foreigners until 1991, when Nepal opened it to trekkers with special permits. This late opening preserved the region’s culture and environment far better than more accessible Himalayan areas. The Nubri people — descendants of Tibetan refugees who crossed Himalayan passes centuries ago — maintain a form of Buddhism that remains largely unchanged today.
Nepal Visa and Entry Requirements for the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
Most international travelers require a tourist visa to enter Nepal. Citizens of many countries can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at designated land border crossings.

Documents Required
- Passport with at least 6 months validity
- Completed arrival form
- Passport-sized photo (usually not required if using the airport’s digital system, but carrying one is recommended)

Who Does Not Need a Visa?
- Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Nepal.
- Travelers from certain countries may have different requirements, so it is advisable to check the latest regulations before travel.
Which Visa is Best for This Trek?
For the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek, we generally recommend obtaining a 30-day tourist visa. This provides sufficient time for arrival, trek preparation, possible weather-related travel delays, and additional sightseeing in Nepal before or after the trek.
Arrival in Kathmandu
We recommend arriving in Kathmandu at least one day before the trek departure date. This allows enough time for:
- Trek briefing with your guide
- Permit preparation
- Equipment check and rental if required
- SIM card activation
- Last-minute shopping and currency exchange
Our team will assist you with airport pickup, permit arrangements, and final trek preparations to ensure a smooth start to your Manaslu adventure.
Getting to the Manaslu Trailhead: Kathmandu to Soti Khola
The trek begins at Soti Khola (700m), reached by a 7–8 hour drive from Kathmandu via Arughat Bazar. Our package includes private jeep transportation, departing Kathmandu at 6:00–6:30 am to ensure daylight. The road follows the Trishuli River north before turning towards the Budhi Gandaki valley. At trek’s end, a private jeep picks up trekkers at Dharapani for the 6–7 hour return drive to Kathmandu via Besisahar. The traditional direction Soti Khola to Dharapani is recommended for optimal acclimatization as altitude is gained gradually over the first several days.
Gear Rental in Kathmandu: What to Rent and What to Bring

Important Advice
Your trekking boots are the most important piece of equipment. Make sure they are comfortable and fully broken in before arriving in Nepal. Avoid attempting the Manaslu Circuit Trek in brand-new boots, as this is one of the most common causes of blisters and foot problems on the trail.
Before departure, our guide will conduct a gear check to ensure you have everything necessary for a safe and comfortable trek.
Emergency Evacuation and Medical Safety on the Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit Trek passes through a remote and restricted region of Nepal where medical facilities are limited. Basic health posts are available in some villages, but there are no fully equipped hospitals along the trekking route. The nearest major medical facilities are located in Gorkha, Besisahar, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.
Our guides are trained in high-altitude safety and carry a comprehensive first-aid kit, including a pulse oximeter for monitoring oxygen saturation and heart rate. Guides are experienced in recognizing the early symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and other altitude-related illnesses.
Helicopter Evacuation in the Manaslu Region
In the event of a serious medical emergency, helicopter evacuation may be necessary. However, because Manaslu is a restricted trekking area, helicopter rescue operations often require additional coordination and approval from multiple government authorities before flights can operate.
Depending on the situation, permissions may be required from:
- Home Ministry of Nepal
- Local District Administration Office (DAO)
- Nepal Army or security authorities when necessary
- Civil Aviation authorities
- Manaslu Conservation and restricted area authorities
These approval procedures can sometimes cause delays compared to helicopter rescues in non-restricted trekking regions such as Everest or Annapurna.
Travel Insurance is Essential
All trekkers should have comprehensive travel insurance that covers:
- High-altitude trekking above 5,000 meters
- Emergency helicopter evacuation
- Medical treatment and hospitalization
- Trip interruption and cancellation
Without insurance, helicopter evacuation and medical expenses can be extremely costly.
Safety Measures During the Trek
- Daily health monitoring by your guide
- Pulse oximeter checks at higher elevations
- Gradual altitude gain for proper acclimatization
- Immediate response to symptoms of altitude sickness
- Emergency communication with our Kathmandu office
- First-aid support throughout the trek
Our priority is always prevention through proper acclimatization, careful itinerary planning, and continuous monitoring, helping ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the Manaslu Circuit Trek.
Travel Insurance Requirements for the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
Travel insurance is mandatory for all trekkers joining the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek. Due to government regulations and safety requirements in the restricted Manaslu region, we cannot process trekking permits without valid travel insurance details.
In recent years, authorities have increased safety requirements for trekkers, guides, and trekking staff operating in remote Himalayan regions. For permit processing and emergency response coordination, all trekkers must provide proof of insurance before the trek begins.
Your Insurance Policy Must Cover
- Emergency helicopter evacuation
- High-altitude trekking up to at least 5,106 meters (Larkya La Pass)
- Medical treatment and hospitalization
- Accidental injury coverage
- Emergency rescue and evacuation expenses
- Trip interruption and cancellation protection
Important Coverage Requirements
Many standard travel insurance policies only cover trekking up to 3,000–4,000 meters. Before purchasing a policy, carefully verify that it covers trekking activities above 5,000 meters in Nepal.
When purchasing your insurance, declare your maximum trekking altitude as:
Larkya La Pass: 5,106 meters (16,752 ft)
Insurance Documentation
Before the trek, please provide:
- Insurance company name
- Policy number
- Emergency assistance contact number
- Digital copy of your insurance certificate
We recommend carrying both digital and printed copies of your insurance documents during the trek.
Why Insurance is Essential
The Manaslu Circuit is a remote and restricted trekking region with limited medical facilities. In the event of a serious illness, injury, or altitude-related emergency, evacuation and medical treatment can be expensive. Travel insurance ensures that emergency assistance can be arranged quickly and efficiently when required.
Recommended Insurance Providers
Many trekkers use international providers such as:
- World Nomads
- Battleface
- True Traveller
- Global Rescue
- International SOS (ISOS)
Before purchasing any policy, always confirm that it specifically covers high-altitude trekking in Nepal up to 5,106 meters.
Our team will verify your insurance details before processing final trek documentation and restricted area permits.
Communication and Connectivity on the Manaslu Circuit Trek
Staying connected on the Manaslu Circuit Trek is easier than many trekkers expect. Nepal Telecom (NTC) provides the most reliable coverage in the region, and its 4G network is available in most villages along the trekking route, including Machha Khola, Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Samagaon, and Samdo.
Mobile data and phone calls generally work well throughout most of the trek. The only section where mobile coverage is usually unavailable is Dharamsala (Larkya Phedi), the high camp before crossing Larkya La Pass (5,106m).
Most tea houses along the route offer WiFi services for an additional fee, typically ranging from USD 2 to USD 3 per device per session. However, connection speeds can be slow and depend on weather conditions and the number of users connected. In many cases, an NTC 4G SIM card provides faster and more reliable internet access than tea house WiFi.
For added convenience, our package includes a complimentary NTC 4G SIM card with a data package, allowing trekkers to stay in touch with family and friends throughout most of the journey.
Connectivity Overview
Nepal Telecom (NTC) offers the best coverage in the Manaslu region.
NTC 4G network available in most villages along the route.
Mobile calls and internet work from Machha Khola to Samdo.
No reliable mobile network at Dharamsala (Larkya Phedi).
WiFi available in most tea houses.
WiFi cost: approximately USD 2–3 per device.
Complimentary NTC 4G SIM card with data package included.
Water Safety and Drinking Water on the 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek
Staying properly hydrated is essential for a safe and enjoyable trek on the Manaslu Circuit, especially as you gain altitude. We recommend drinking at least 3 litres of water per day at lower elevations and 4 litres or more per day above 3,000 meters to support acclimatization and reduce the risk of altitude-related symptoms.
Water is available throughout the trek at tea houses, villages, and natural water sources. However, all drinking water should be treated before consumption.
Safe Drinking Water Options
- Boiled Water: Available at tea houses along the route and considered the safest option. Cost is typically USD 1–3 per litre, depending on the altitude.
- Water Purification Tablets: Lightweight and effective for treating tap or stream water.
- Water Filters: Personal filters such as Sawyer Squeeze or LifeStraw work well throughout the trek.
- UV Purifiers: Devices such as SteriPen can quickly purify water when batteries are fully charged.
Our Recommendation
We provide water purification tablets as part of our trek package, allowing trekkers to safely refill their bottles and reduce plastic waste. Bringing a reusable water bottle or hydration bladder is highly recommended.
Important Tips
- Drink water regularly, even if you do not feel thirsty.
- Carry at least a 2–3 litre water capacity each day.
- Increase your water intake as you gain altitude.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption at higher elevations.
- Help protect the environment by minimizing the use of single-use plastic bottles.
Proper hydration is one of the most effective ways to support acclimatization and enjoy a safer trekking experience on the Manaslu Circuit.

Nine Days of Silence, Mountains, and Human WarmthBy Richard Ashby June 7, 2026I came to the Manaslu Circuit looking for a trek that would take me away from the increasingly crowded trails of the more popular regions and what I found was something far better than I had hoped. The combination of dramatic gorge walking, high altitude plateaus, ancient Buddhist villages, and close up views of the world's eighth highest mountain makes the 9 day circuit one of the finest routes I have ever walked. Manaslu Treks and Expedition made the planning process straightforward and personal. Kiran, the owner, sent me detailed information by email and then followed up with a phone call to go through any questions I had. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the region and spoke about the different sections of the trek with real affection. You could tell this was not just a business transaction for him but a genuine enthusiasm for sharing something he loves. Our guide was Ramsharan and he brought a quality to the experience that I can only describe as mentorship. He taught me how to read the weather above the snowline, how to identify medicinal herbs along the trail, how to pace breathing at altitude, and how to engage with local communities respectfully and genuinely. He did all of this naturally, without lecturing, just through example and quiet conversation on the trail. The upper Nubri valley has a quality of light that I have not encountered anywhere else. At altitude above 3000 meters the air is so clear and dry that colors take on an extraordinary vividness, the blue of the sky, the white of the peaks, the ochre of the monastery walls, the green of the river far below. Ramsharan seemed to take particular pleasure in watching newcomers experience that light for the first time. Porter Karma was with us every day and his steadiness was reassuring throughout. The entire Manaslu Treks and Expedition team, from Kiran's planning to Ramsharan's guiding to Karma's support, made this trek an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life.Date of Experience: June 01, 2025

Breathtaking Views and Outstanding Service on the Manaslu TrailBy Megan Holloway June 7, 2026I have done a lot of traveling in Asia over the years but the 9 Day Manaslu Circuit Trek was in a different category entirely from anything I had previously experienced. From the initial planning stages to the final morning when we came down to the road at Soti Khola, everything was handled with a level of care and competence that I found genuinely impressive. I booked with Manaslu Treks and Expedition after corresponding with Kiran, the company owner, who took the time to understand what kind of traveler I was before recommending the 9 day version of the circuit. He pointed out via WhatsApp that the route covers the most scenic and culturally rich sections of the longer circuit and that for someone with my available time and experience level it was the perfect fit. He was absolutely right. Our guide was Nakul and he was exceptional from start to finish. He had this wonderful way of framing the trek as a story that we were living rather than a route we were following, each day building on the last, each landscape informing the next. The Budhi Gandaki gorge in the lower section told one story, all power and geology and the raw force of water carving through rock over millennia. The Nubri plateau told another, quieter story of Buddhist communities maintaining ancient rhythms of life against the backdrop of the world's great mountains. The approach to Samagaun on day four felt like arriving somewhere genuinely sacred. The village sits in a natural amphitheater below the Manaslu massif and the mountain above fills your entire field of vision when you look north. Nakul had arranged for us to take an optional short hike to a higher viewpoint that afternoon and the additional altitude brought us close enough to the glaciers that we could hear them creaking in the afternoon heat. Porter Dawa was tireless and good natured throughout. Manaslu Treks and Expedition exceeded every expectation and I recommend them to every trekker I meet.Date of Experience: August 01, 2024

A Trekker's Trek Through Nepal's Hidden GiantBy Patrick Gallagher June 7, 2026The Manaslu Circuit has a reputation among experienced trekkers as one of the great Himalayan routes and after nine days with Manaslu Treks and Expedition I would say that reputation is entirely justified. The mountain itself is the eighth highest in the world and walking through its shadow for several days of the trek gives you a sense of scale that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else. I found the company through online research and sent an inquiry expecting a generic automated response. Instead I received a personal email from Kiran within a few hours followed by a WhatsApp call the following morning where he went through every detail of the trek including permits, gear requirements, and what to do if altitude sickness became a concern. His thoroughness and enthusiasm set the tone for everything that followed. Our guide Praldah was a genuinely exceptional human being. He had a deep understanding of both the mountain environment and the cultural landscape of the Nubri and Tsum regions. He had been guiding in the Manaslu area for over a decade and his expertise showed in everything from the way he read cloud formations to the way he negotiated with teahouse owners for warm rooms. He spoke of the local communities with real affection and was clearly respected by them in return. The trek itself was challenging in the way all good treks are, requiring consistent effort but never feeling beyond reach. The daily rhythm of rising early, eating together, walking through extraordinary terrain, arriving at a teahouse in the late afternoon, and then sitting by the stove sharing the day's experiences became one of the most satisfying things I have ever done. By day four we were deep in the high Nubri country and the world felt very far away in the best possible sense. Porter Pasang was a steady and kind presence throughout. Manaslu Treks and Expedition is without question the best agency I have used in Nepal and I have used quite a few.Date of Experience: December 01, 2024

A Trek That Restores Your Faith in the WorldBy Victoria Barnes June 7, 2026I had been through a difficult year before deciding to do the Manaslu Circuit and I think a part of me was hoping the mountains would help me reset. They absolutely did and so did the extraordinary people at Manaslu Treks and Expedition who made the experience possible. Kiran, the owner, responded to my initial email with such personal warmth that I immediately felt I was in good hands. He followed up with a WhatsApp message a few days later to check I had everything I needed and to share some seasonal trail conditions from his contacts on the ground. Our guide was Dhana Sherpa and from the moment we set off from Arughat he made the whole group feel safe and well-attended. He has a beautiful quality of calm that spreads to everyone around him. On the tougher days when altitude or fatigue made people anxious or irritable he had this gentle way of redirecting the energy toward the beauty around us. He would pause on the trail, take a long breath, and look out at whatever mountain or valley was visible, and within moments everyone had done the same and the tension had dissolved. The 9 day itinerary takes you through what I would describe as the soul of Nepal. The lower Budhi Gandaki gorge with its vertical walls of rock and its roaring green river is unlike anything on the more commercial routes. The teahouses are small and simple but always warm and the food has the quality that comes from people cooking what they actually eat rather than what they think tourists want. By the time we were sitting around the stove in a teahouse above Namrung eating freshly baked bread and butter with cups of black tea while the wind came off the glacier outside, I felt more content than I had in years. Porter Bikash was with us every day and his good humor was genuinely infectious. The whole team made this trek feel like a gift. I cannot recommend Manaslu Treks and Expedition highly enough.Date of Experience: January 01, 2025

Everything About This Trek Exceeded My ExpectationsBy James Whitfield June 7, 2026I want to start by saying that my experience with Manaslu Treks and Expedition began before the trek even started and was already excellent at that point. Kiran, the owner, replied to my inquiry personally and then called me on WhatsApp to discuss details. He has a clear love for this region and that enthusiasm is infectious. By the time I had been talking to him for twenty minutes I was not just planning a trek, I was genuinely excited about a journey. Our guide was Sunil and he was the kind of guide who turns a good trek into a great one. He had encyclopedic knowledge of the trail, the altitude, the weather patterns, and the communities along the route. He knew when to push the pace slightly and when to slow down and let people find their rhythm. On the harder climbing days in the middle section of the trek he would break the ascent into small manageable sections and celebrate each one in a quiet way that kept morale high. The Manaslu Circuit in nine days is a compact version of the full circuit but it absolutely does not feel rushed or abbreviated. The itinerary is cleverly designed to give you the key experiences of the route. The gorge walking in the lower section is as dramatic as anything on the Everest or Annapurna trails, the cultural villages of the Nubri plateau are genuinely extraordinary, and the mountain views from above Samagaun are among the finest in Nepal. One moment I will not forget: on the morning of day six we climbed to a viewpoint above Samagaun in the early light, just Sunil and I because the others had preferred to rest, and we sat watching the sunrise paint the Manaslu massif in colours that shifted from deep indigo through gold to blinding white over the course of about forty minutes. Sunil said it was one of the best sunrises he had seen this season and I had no reason to doubt him. Porter Tenzin was incredible throughout. Manaslu Treks and Expedition run this trek with obvious love and skill. Highly recommended.Date of Experience: February 01, 2025

The Most Authentic Trekking Experience Nepal Has to OfferBy Emily Sutton June 7, 2026I had been following the Manaslu region on social media for about two years before I finally committed to making the trek happen. When I started reaching out to agencies I found the response from Manaslu Treks and Expedition immediately different in character from the others. Kiran himself called me after receiving my email, and then a few days later sent a detailed WhatsApp message with suggested reading about the region's history and culture. He seemed to genuinely want me to arrive informed and excited rather than just booked and paid. Our guide was Susam and the nine days I spent trekking with him were among the richest of my life. He had this extraordinary ability to move between being guide, storyteller, naturalist, and friend as the situation required. In the lower gorge sections he was practical and safety-focused, pointing out unstable sections of trail and timing our river crossings. In the cultural villages of the upper Nubri region he became almost a different person, speaking the local dialect with the villagers, introducing us with obvious pride, arranging for us to visit a family home in Samagaun where we sat around a fire and drank chhaang and listened to stories about the seasonal migrations of this community. The physical experience of the trek is genuinely challenging in the best possible way. Nothing is so difficult that it requires technical mountaineering skill but everything demands sustained effort and rewards that effort with access to landscapes that most people on earth will never see. The views from above Lho looking back down the Budhi Gandaki toward the lower valleys while Manaslu rises behind you are extraordinary. Porter Karma made our group feel looked after every day without being intrusive. He had a sixth sense for when someone needed an extra snack or an encouraging word. I came home from this trek feeling fundamentally changed by it. Manaslu Treks and Expedition are the perfect company for anyone wanting to experience the real heart of the Himalaya.Date of Experience: November 01, 2025

Nine Days That Changed How I Think About MountainsBy Thomas Bradley June 7, 2026There is a particular feeling you get on certain treks where the mountain stops being something you are looking at and becomes something you are genuinely inside, surrounded by, part of. The 9 Day Manaslu Circuit Trek with Manaslu Treks and Expedition gave me that feeling in a way I have rarely experienced. I booked with Kiran after an email exchange that stretched over a few days. He answered every question thoroughly and when I mentioned I was coming as a photographer hoping for the best light he gave me specific advice about which camps offered the best morning views and suggested an earlier start on certain days to maximize the chances of catching the alpenglow on Manaslu. That level of personalized attention was remarkable. Our guide Ramsharan was a brilliant combination of experienced mountain professional and enthusiastic host. He had this wonderful habit of stopping at certain viewpoints and just sitting down without saying anything, letting the landscape communicate for itself, and then after a few minutes beginning to talk about what we were seeing, the geology, the glaciology, the human history. It was like having a teacher who understood that silence comes before words. The section between Samagaun and the higher viewpoints was my personal highlight. We climbed up through moraine fields toward a ridge that gave us a view of the entire Manaslu massif from base to summit, a view so complete and so overwhelming that I went through an entire memory card in an hour. Ramsharan sat nearby and smiled at my frantic camera work with quiet amusement. Our porter Mingma was strong, reliable, and warm throughout the nine days. The teahouses in the upper villages were simple but had an authentic coziness about them that no amount of five-star hotel luxury can replicate. Manaslu Treks and Expedition deliver a genuinely exceptional experience. The combination of expert guiding, careful logistics, and real human warmth makes them stand out from the many agencies operating in this region.Date of Experience: April 01, 2026

Solo Trekker Finds Community and Beauty on the Manaslu CircuitBy Alice Morgan June 7, 2026As a solo female trekker I always do extra due diligence before committing to a remote high altitude trek and I am so glad that due diligence led me to Manaslu Treks and Expedition. Kiran, the owner, called me on WhatsApp after I sent my initial inquiry and spent the better part of an hour answering my questions about safety, accommodation, group size, and the general character of the trek. He was reassuring without being dismissive of the real challenges involved, which I appreciated greatly. My guide was Nakul and he was simply superb. He had a calm authority that never needed to assert itself aggressively, a quiet competence that made every difficult moment on the trail feel manageable. When we crossed a swollen river on a wobbling suspension bridge above the gorge in the lower section he guided me across with steady instructions and zero drama. That kind of confident reassurance is worth everything when you are far from anywhere in the mountains. The 9 day Manaslu Circuit takes you through an astonishing variety of landscape and culture. The lower Budhi Gandaki valley has this intense lush wildness to it, waterfalls and rapids and overhanging rock walls and dense jungle. As you climb through the middle sections into the Nubri and Tsum cultural zone the villages become more Tibetan in character, with white washed stone houses, prayer wheels, and elaborately painted monastery gates. By the time you reach Samagaun you feel like you have traveled to a completely different country. Manaslu itself is an astonishing presence. It has a different character from Everest or Annapurna, more enclosed, more directly imposing because you are walking beneath its flanks rather than viewing it from across a valley. On a clear evening with the last light on those ice ridges it is genuinely one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Porter Dawa was cheerful and endlessly helpful and made my solo experience feel like traveling with an extended family. This trek and this company exceeded every expectation.Date of Experience: October 01, 2025

The Manaslu Circuit in Nine Days Was Everything I Hoped ForBy Daniel Horton June 7, 2026Planning a Himalayan trek always involves a lot of research and a certain amount of trust that the agency you choose will actually deliver what they promise. Manaslu Treks and Expedition earned my trust before we even started. I sent an inquiry and Kiran messaged me back within hours, then followed up with a WhatsApp call where he walked me through the 9 day itinerary in detail, explained what permits were needed, what the accommodation would be like, and gave me a realistic sense of the physical challenge involved. He was patient with all my questions and clearly genuinely enthusiastic about the region. Our guide was Praldah and he turned out to be one of the most competent and personable guides I have ever trekked with. He grew up in the hills near this region and his local knowledge was extraordinary. He knew the trails not just as routes but as living things with histories and stories attached. He told us about the floods and landslides that had changed the path in certain sections, about the families who had lived in now-abandoned villages, about the ecological changes he had witnessed over his years of guiding in the area. The trek begins dramatically with the Budhi Gandaki gorge and the narrow trail carved into rock faces above fast running water. It is immediately apparent that this is a different kind of trekking to what you find on more commercial routes. There are far fewer trekkers, the trails are rougher, the villages are more traditional, and the silence is more complete. By day three when we were climbing through forests of birch and rhododendron toward the higher elevations there was a feeling of deep remoteness that I found both humbling and exhilarating. Samagaun sits at around 3500 meters and the views of Manaslu from there are simply extraordinary. Praldah pointed out the different ridges and the general line of the standard route and the mountain suddenly became comprehensible as a thing that real people have climbed rather than just an abstract icon on a horizon. Porter Bikash was a cheerful and hardworking member of the team throughout. The whole Manaslu Treks and Expedition crew operated with seamless efficiency and genuine care. Highly recommended for anyone considering this trek.Date of Experience: March 01, 2026

Emotional and Physically Rewarding Trek with a World Class TeamBy Laura Fitzgerald June 7, 2026I spent weeks researching trekking agencies for the Manaslu Circuit before settling on Manaslu Treks and Expedition, and every day of the trek confirmed I had made the right choice. Kiran, the owner, was involved in the planning from the very start. After an initial email exchange he called me on WhatsApp and we had a long and genuinely interesting conversation about the route, the history of the region, and what to realistically expect. He clearly loves the mountains and shares that love with every traveler he works with. Our guide Dhana Sherpa was extraordinary. He has been guiding in the Manaslu region for many years and his expertise showed at every stage of the trek. His knowledge of mountain weather patterns, altitude sickness symptoms, and trail conditions was invaluable and his warmth toward both the trekkers in our group and the local communities along the way made the whole experience feel deeply human. When we visited the monastery at Lho he spoke with the monks like old friends and we were invited to sit and have butter tea, which is not something most trekking groups ever get to experience. The terrain on the 9 day itinerary is remarkably varied. You start in subtropical heat in the river valleys, pass through cool pine and rhododendron forests in the middle elevations, and emerge into a stark and beautiful high altitude landscape as you approach the Nubri plateau around Samagaun. By the time Manaslu comes into full view above those villages the journey to get there makes it feel completely earned. Our porter Pemba was a highlight in himself. He was funny, warm, and seemed to genuinely enjoy the trek as much as we did. He took photos of us at every viewpoint and would pose for group shots with great theatrical enthusiasm. The 9 day circuit is challenging but deeply rewarding and with the right company and guide it becomes genuinely transformative. This was one of the best experiences of my adult life.Date of Experience: May 01, 2025

A Raw and Magnificent Nine Day Journey Through ManasluBy Marcus Reid June 7, 2026The Manaslu region has a reputation among serious trekkers as one of the last truly wild mountain circuits in Nepal, and after completing the 9 day version with Manaslu Treks and Expedition I can confirm that reputation is fully deserved. I corresponded with Kiran, the company owner, by email and WhatsApp before booking and he was exceptionally helpful in customizing the pacing to account for the fact that I had never trekked above 4000 meters before. He was honest about the physical demands without being alarmist, which I found refreshing. Our guide was Sudip and he was outstanding in every way. Physically he seemed almost superhuman, always moving easily on terrain that had the rest of us breathing hard, but he was also endlessly patient and would stop to explain things about the landscape, the culture, the local plant life with genuine enthusiasm. The Nubri and Tsum peoples of this region have maintained a way of life deeply connected to Tibetan Buddhist traditions and Sudip had a beautiful way of contextualizing what we were seeing so it felt meaningful rather than just picturesque. One of the highlights for me was the crossing of a high ridge above Namrung on a clear morning with Manaslu and Ganesh Himal both visible and the Budhi Gandaki far below in the valley. Sudip stopped the group at that point, gestured at the panorama, and said nothing. He did not need to say anything. We all stood there quietly for several minutes and it was one of those moments that trekking is really about. Our porter Tenzin was a young man from a village near Gorkha who carried the group's bags every day with a kind of quiet dignity that made all of us treat him with great respect. He was always cheerful and when we reached the final teahouse before Soti Khola he spontaneously bought us all cups of milk tea to celebrate the end of the trek. Manaslu Treks and Expedition delivered a flawless experience from logistics to human connection. I will absolutely trek with them again.Date of Experience: September 01, 2024

Nine Days of Pure Himalayan Magic on the Manaslu TrailBy Charlotte Webb June 7, 2026I first heard about the Manaslu Circuit from a friend who had done it the previous year and described it as the most remote and beautiful trek she had ever experienced. After some research I found Manaslu Treks and Expedition and sent them an inquiry. Within a few hours Kiran, the owner, messaged me on WhatsApp with a voice note explaining the 9 day itinerary in detail and telling me which dates were best for the season I was interested in. I appreciated how personal that felt. He was not just sending a copy-paste email, he was genuinely engaged with my question. We started in Arughat and our guide Sunil led us into the river gorge on that first morning with the confidence of someone who has done this route dozens of times. He had good English, excellent local knowledge, and a natural ability to read the group's energy and adjust the pace accordingly. There were four of us on the trip and Sunil made each person feel attended to, which is not an easy thing to do on a trek where altitude and fatigue bring out very different reactions in different people. The lower section of the Manaslu Circuit through the gorges is genuinely underrated. Most people fixate on the high mountain views and the upper section but the deep humid jungle trails with hanging bridges over the roaring Budhi Gandaki, the waterfalls crashing down from cliffs above, the villages of the lower valleys with their fields of millet and their houses built from river stone, this is a complete world unto itself. Sunil knew when to point things out and when to let the silence speak. When we finally crested above the treeline into the high Nubri country and Manaslu came into full view from the meadows above Samagaun, I had to stop and sit down for a minute because it was so overwhelming. The mountain has a presence that photographs cannot capture. Our porter Pasang was wonderful throughout. He was always at the teahouse first, always smiling, always helpful. The whole team from Manaslu Treks and Expedition made this trek one of the best weeks of my life. Fully recommended.Date of Experience: November 01, 2024

Best Trek I Have Done in Ten Years of Himalayan TravelBy Nathan Pierce June 7, 2026I have trekked the Annapurna Circuit, the Langtang Valley, the Gokyo Lakes, and a few shorter routes around Pokhara, but the 9 Day Manaslu Circuit Trek was on another level entirely. Part of what made it so special was the preparation that Kiran from Manaslu Treks and Expedition put into making sure I was ready. We had two calls before I even booked, one via WhatsApp and one on the phone, where he walked me through the physical demands, the altitude profile, the kind of weather I should expect in April, and the visa and permit requirements. His thoroughness gave me confidence that I was going with an agency that actually cared about my experience. Our guide Susam was a wonderful companion for the nine days. He had this dry sense of humor that kept everyone laughing even on the harder days when legs were tired and the trail seemed never-ending. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the Buddhist culture of the region and when we passed through the villages of Serang and Lho he would explain the history of the gompas, the significance of the mani walls, the meaning behind the prayer flags strung across the ridges. He spoke to the local people with genuine respect and you could see they trusted him. The section above Samagaun toward the higher viewpoints gave us a day with panoramic views that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Manaslu towering to one side, Ngadi Chuli and Himalchuli to the other, and the Budhi Gandaki valley falling away below. Susam pointed out the route the first ascent teams used in the 1950s and the whole history of the mountain came alive. Our porter Karma was tireless and good natured and made the rest of the group feel looked after in the most genuine way. The teahouse food in the upper villages was simple but delicious. Dal bhat after a long day at altitude hits completely differently than it does anywhere else. Manaslu Treks and Expedition is the real thing. They care about the trek, they care about the mountains, and they care about the people who come to experience them. I will be back.Date of Experience: April 01, 2025

Kiran and the Team Made This Trek Truly SpecialBy Sophie Lawson June 7, 2026Planning a trek in a restricted area like Manaslu felt a little overwhelming at first because there are permits and logistics involved that are different from Annapurna or Everest. I had been in contact with a few agencies but the one that stood out was Manaslu Treks and Expedition. I emailed them and within the same day Kiran replied personally with a very detailed breakdown of costs, what was included, and what to expect day by day. He then followed up with a WhatsApp message offering to answer any questions I had before booking. That kind of personal attention is rare and it sealed my decision. Our guide for the trek was Ramsharan and I genuinely cannot say enough good things about him. He grew up not far from this region and his connection to the mountains felt real and personal. He knew the trails intimately, knew which teahouses had the best food, and would point out birds of prey circling the ridges that I would have completely missed. The stretch between Deng and Ghap is quite dramatic with dense forests giving way to more barren high altitude terrain and Ramsharan narrated it like someone telling the story of his own backyard. By the time we arrived in Lho and got our first proper view of the Manaslu massif I understood why people return to this trek again and again. The mountain is so close and so enormous that the scale of it does something strange to your sense of reality. Ramsharan let us spend extra time there without rushing and I sat with my coffee in the morning light just staring up at those ridges. Our porter Mingma was a quiet, steady presence throughout. He carried more than seemed humanly reasonable and always had the bags waiting at the teahouse when we arrived. That kind of reliable support matters more than people realize on a multi-day high altitude trek. The 9 day itinerary is tight but perfectly designed. You see the real heart of the Manaslu region without needing two weeks. The teahouses along the route were clean and warm, the food was much better than I expected, and the people of the Nubri valley have this wonderful unhurried dignity about them. I would highly recommend this trek and this company to anyone who wants the real Nepal experience away from the crowds.Date of Experience: October 01, 2024

An Unforgettable Nine Days in the Manaslu WildernessBy Oliver Bennett June 7, 2026I have been trekking in Nepal several times over the years but nothing quite prepared me for what the 9 Day Manaslu Circuit Trek would deliver. I initially reached out to Manaslu Treks and Expedition through their website and within a few hours I got a message back from Kiran, the owner, who personally called me on WhatsApp to walk me through the entire itinerary. His knowledge of the route and his genuine passion for sharing this region with trekkers made me feel confident from day one. He answered every single one of my questions and even gave me packing advice specific to the season I was traveling in, which I found incredibly helpful. Our guide was Nakul and from the first morning when we gathered at Arughat Bazar to begin the trek, he had this calm confidence about him that immediately put the whole group at ease. The walk along the Budhi Gandaki river through those narrow gorges in the lower section is just stunning. The walls of rock rise up on both sides and the river roars below, and you are threading this narrow trail through hanging bridges and small Gurung villages. Nakul knew every family along the way and would stop to exchange a few words, and it made us feel like we were guests in someone's home rather than tourists passing through. By the time we reached Jagat and then pushed on to Deng and Namrung, I started to feel the altitude a little, but Nakul kept the pace measured and never rushed. The acclimatization built in to the 9 day schedule is genuinely smart and I appreciated that Manaslu Treks and Expedition had designed the itinerary to give the body time to adjust. When we got to Samagaun the views of Manaslu were absolutely overwhelming. I stood there at dusk watching the light go from gold to pink on that massive north face and I could not say a word. Our porter Dawa had been carrying our bags with a quiet steady energy the whole way and when I thanked him in Samagaun he just smiled and pointed up at the mountain as if to say that was payment enough. The final days descending back through Machha Khola and reaching Soti Khola had this bittersweet feeling I often get at the end of a good trek. I was tired and my legs were heavy but I did not want it to end. Manaslu Treks and Expedition ran this trip with real professionalism and heart and I would book with them again without a second thought.Date of Experience: March 01, 2025
