10 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek

10 Days

Embark on the Manaslu Circuit Trek, a 10-day adventure that circles the eighth highest mountain in the world. This shorter itinerary condenses the classic route while still offering the raw beauty of the Budhi Gandaki valley, Tibetan-influenced villages, and the exhilarating crossing of the Larkya La Pass (5,123 m). Starting with a jeep drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola, you follow the roaring Budhi Gandaki upstream through lush rice terraces, subtropical forests and dramatic gorges. As the trail climbs higher, rhododendron forests give way to open alpine vistas and you’ll see glaciers spilling down the flanks of Manaslu (8,163 m) and neighboring peaks like Himal Chuli, Ngadi Chuli and Ganesh Himal.

The Manaslu region is a restricted area that only opened to trekkers in the early 1990s. This means visitor numbers are regulated and the trail remains wonderfully off the beaten path. You’ll trek through Gurung and Tibetan villages that still practice ancient traditions and visit Buddhist monasteries and mani walls adorned with colourful prayer flags. Acclimatization stops in places like Namrung and Sama Gaun allow your body to adjust to the altitude and provide opportunities to explore side trails to viewpoints and hidden valleys. For shorter adventures, explore our 9 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek and for longer journeys, discover our 14 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Highlights of the trek include:

  • Crossing the dramatic suspension bridges over the Budhi Gandaki River.
  • Waking up to sunrise views of Manaslu and the surrounding Himalayan giants.
  • Immersing yourself in the culture of highland villages like Lho and Samdo.
  • Conquering the Larkya La Pass (5,123 m), one of the longest passes in Nepal, with breathtaking vistas of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal and Annapurna II.

Permits: Because the Manaslu Circuit passes through a restricted area, you’ll need a Restricted Area Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). Trekking with at least two trekkers and a licensed guide through a registered trekking agency is required.

Best season: The best times to trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the skies are clear, temperatures moderate and rhododendron forests bloom. The trail can be tackled in winter, but expect cold temperatures and occasional snow on the pass; monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rains and landslides.

Physical fitness: This 10-day itinerary is graded moderately strenuous due to long walking days (5–7 hours) and the high elevation at Larkya La. Regular cardiovascular exercise and some hill training will make the trek more enjoyable.

Route overview: After driving from Kathmandu to Soti Khola you trek to Machha Khola, Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Sama Gaun and Samdo before crossing Larkya La to Bimthang. From Bimthang the trail descends through rhododendron forests to Dharapani, where a jeep takes you back to Kathmandu. Even with limited time, this route offers an unforgettable journey through one of Nepal’s most stunning and untouched trekking regions.
